Not quite monumental....

I was recently asked to create the artwork for the NH Dot Snow Plow Rally Official Belt Buckle. I guess this is a tradition which has been going on for a very long time and each year the create a new belt buckle for the event. This artwork is 2" x 3" and computerized text will be added to it. These guys earn their money up here!

My "first" Stone Sculpture

This can be considered my first completed stone sculpture. I recently created this piece as a homage to nursing mothers. What is interesting is that while I have been working on the piece the visual of what it is becomes incredibly clear to me though when I have showed it to people for the first time they do not immediately "see" it.....can you?

In honor of.....

In honor of tomorrows Inauguration I wanted to post these "Official" White House shots of my trip to the Artists reception in early December at the White House. There was an official White House photographer who took a shot of every artist and his date (in my case my youngest sister) and recently I received the photo taken along with a photo of the ornament, the outgoing President and his wife and a pile of paper swag.
In the studio things are hopping with several projects underway and a couple in the works. My experiments with stonework are coming along nicely and I will be posting photos of them soon.

New items at LJN Sculpture

Here are two examples of hand created, hand carved slate plaques. I will now be offering an array of sculptural work in stone including these custom plaques which are made to order. Quotes, signs, sun dials, architectural lettering on buildings etc. All of it is laid out by hand and carved with mallet and chisel. keep your eyes out for a new page on the LJNSCULPTURE.COM website for more details!

Stone work

I have always wanted to play with stone and recently I have been able to act on that urge. With little or no expectations (a lie) I started in on a piece of marble the other day. At the moment I am just getting the feel for the uses of the different chisels I had lying around and enjoying the meditative atmosphere wearing a hat, goggles, ear plugs, gloves and a scarf provides.....

The White House Christmas tree

A few weeks back I was asked by representatives of the state of Vermont to create a Christmas Ornament for the White House Christmas tree. They ask that I not disclose much more info than that before the First Lady releases a press release in early December.
It is a great honor and certainly a nice way to kick off the Christmas season, Ho Ho Ho!

Bas Relief Portraits

I have been spending most of my time recently working on a series of reliefs that I have been commissioned to do. Here is a shot of one of those reliefs in progress it is the world reknown Vintners Ernest and Julio Gallo.
